Granite countertops = 21% higher sales price, but only on the East Side

Read an interesting stat on ARDELL’S Real Estate Blog – the median price for Bellevue homes with granite counter tops is 21% higher than all homes. Here it is graphically

Now, one shouldn’t conclude that a few grand investment in the kitchen will yield outsized returns. But it is interesting that granite counter tops are a great indicator of how valuable a home is.

However, that indicator doesn’t work in all areas. Here’s the % difference by King County region:

I don’t know why Queen Anne and Greenlake don’t experience a price increase with granite counter tops. I’m too new to the area to know the character of houses in those areas. ARDELL cites condos vs. townhomes, which could definitely be driving the difference.
